CAFOD stands for the Catholic Agency For Overseas Development. This is an international development agency and the official aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales.

CAFOD works with people living in poverty - whatever their religion or culture. Through local church partners, like our parish group, CAFOD helps people directly in their own communities, and campaigns for global justice so that everyone can reach their full potential.

St. Mary’s CAFOD group has been in existence for many years and meets for one hour at 8.00pm on the second Monday of every month in the Priory. Please check with the parish Weekly Newsletter to confirm meetings. Any parishioner is welcome to attend the meetings as the group is keen for new people to join and to contribute their ideas to support our work.

Our focus is to raise local awareness of world poverty, human rights, and other linked issues of peace and justice. We do this by encouraging people to sign petitions, raise funds, and participate in rallies and retreats.

Every Christmas we have a “5p’s collection”  which we donate to a worthy CAFOD development programme. We often hold a “Quiz Evening” to raise funds, as well as a “Wine Tasting Evening” and take part in the “Fairtrade Fortnight” during March each year.

For more information about the group please contact Phil Simpson on 0121 427 2945 or by email at: cefn54@mac.com
